I took Mikayla to the Hopsital for her apt with the Paediatrician this morning about the pain she gets in her knees every night and after she's been running around.
The Doctor we saw was really lovely and she asked a load of questions about it and
if Mikayla had any unusual birthmarks so I showed her the 2 strawberry birth marks she's got (one on her chest and the other on the back of her neck). She also asked about the eczema and
if anyone in the family suffered from joint problems at all.
Then she started to examine Mikayla and started of by looking at her hands, elbows, shoulders, neck and chest. Then she had to lay on the bed while she looked at her feet, knees and hips, bending them about this way and that.Mikayla told her
if it hurt when she was pressing in certain places but then started laughing when she touched her behind her knees cos that's her most ticklish spot

She also bent Mikayla's thumb back and it touched her forearm (I can't do it with mine) and got her to stand with her legs straight bend forward and put her hands flat on the floor. She also showed me that Mikayla's elbows do the strange bending backwards thing that her knees do aswell. Then she told me that Mikayla has got hypermobility syndrome and that could be what's causing a lot of the pain. She also said when she was examining her that she'd noticed that just above her knees was quite swollen so she thinks that she may also have arthritis aswell

First off she was going to get an ultrsound done of Mikayla's hips (because of the problem she has with her hips not being in alignment properly yet) but then she changed her mind and decided to get x rays of her hips and her knees done instead. So we went from Childrens Outpatients down to the x ray dept and luckily only had to wait 15 mins before she was called in to have them done. The radiographer was great with her and she even managed to keep still when he did the xrays and he did 8 of them altogether (for some reason or other she decided that she had to say cheese every time though

She has to go back to the Hospital to have blood tests taken on the 18th August so I've got the magic cream to put on the backs of her hands and in the bend of her elbows so that hopefully she won't feel the needle going in and scream the place down
She has to go back again on the 16th October for the results of the x rays and blood tests but we've got to see a Rheumatologist instead of the Paediatrician so that they will be able to let me know about treatments for the hypermobility syndrome and
if she's got it the arthritis.
love and hugs,
