Default Tantrums

Anyone else's kid throw monster tantrums? Ashley will start one over something simple like watching a TV show. She will carry it on for hours - I will put her in time out, ignore her, you name it. She has done one for 2-3 STRAIGHT hours with kicking doors and throwing things and hyperventalating. I try to talk to her, explain why she can't do what she wants etc.

We have tried behavior charts, rewards, taking things away. We are improving slightly, but any other thoughts or just knowing I am not alone would help. I am at my wits end.

It doesn't help that I hav 3rd grade lunch duty every day with 90 kids and only 1 other teacher!

Yep. Huge tantrums here off and on over dumb stuff, and even when he knows that the consequences will be.

We were all excited because I got some new toys for them to play while I make dinner. I explained that each night we'd get to get something new to play with, but that there would be no whining over what toy he got, and that his other choice would be to go up and play in his room while I made dinner (where there are plenty of other toys to play with.) So tonight, he starts crying and carrying on about he doesnt like the toys he got. So I sent him up to his room--- he had a colossal fit. Screaming, yelling, crying, etc.

Meanwhile... my "terrible twos" child was playing delightedly with his toys.

Finally, Josh pulled it together and asked to come down and play. I said sure, and do you know when he got downstairs he started to give me attitude again about the toys? He almost had to go back up to his room.

So yep.... right there with you. It doesn't go on for hours here, but my sweet, kind considerate boy goes to some kid I don't know in about 2 seconds sometimes.

Oh God yes. Braedon has meltdowns of epic perportions over things that simply don't matter in the grand scheme of life. I try to talk to him before it happens when I see it coming but most of the time there is no way of talking him out of the fit. One thing we have been doing is earning points on the reward board. For each point they get a quarter at the end of the week so if he goes all day without a major tantrum he earns a point. This really hit home this past Sat. when he got his money and was allowed to spend it at the Fall Festival. But still I have to remind him over and over.

Oh yes!! Nick can get down right nasty at times! He'll kick, thrash, scream- totally freak out. Looks like something from a horror movie.
It doesn't go on for hours but he he has been known to have several episodes in one day (on a bad day).
It's exhausting and really wears me down at times. There is just no pleasing him when he's in one of his "moods".
