Default Gerber 2nd Foods

Gavyn's been on the Gerber 1st foods for awhile now. He's had everything except prunes so far. He loves them all... carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, peas, apples, bananas, pears & peaches. He also eats rice cereal and oatmeal.

According to Gerber, once your baby has tried all the different 1st foods, can sit without support, eats from a spoon easily, grabs or sits forward to reach the spoon, then they may be ready for Gerber 2nd foods.

Gavyn only sits without support for a few minutes at a time but he does all the other things. I feel he may be getting bored with the same old foods day after day. Do you think he's ready for 2nd foods? Maybe the mixed cereals with fruit, or the mixed veggie varietys?

Also, when are you supposed to start giving babies the meat baby foods? I know I can ask his doctor all of these things, but I never thought to when we saw her on Monday. I figured I'd see what all you ladies think and what you plan to do with your little one's before I ask her about it.

I would start him on the second stage, starting with the mixed fruits & veggies he is already eating. I've started the twins on some things already (like peas & carrots together, apples, bananas & rice cereal mix ) as well as oatmeal with apple. I know you started solids before us so I don't see why you shouldn't move forward now that he is 6 months. I'm giving them Heniz baby food and the second stage says "from 6 months". I'm not sure about the meats though. I'm going to hold off for a bit -- my sister tried at 8 months and it made my niece very gassy & fussy.

I agree with Erinn, Brooke. Since Gavyn already tried all of the single fruits and veggies, you can always mix two different ones together. Or as Erinn mentioned, you can add one of them to cereal. My BF used to do that with her son. Gave him cereal mixed with pears.
Gavyn probably won't get bored that easily, because he gets to eat different things every day.

I do mix things. For breakfast he has oatmeal mixed with fruit, and for dinner he has veggies. Or for breakfast he'll just have fruit, and then for dinner he'll have veggies mixed with rice cereal. I've also mixed fruits together, but not vegetables yet. I think I'll pick up a few things, like the pre mixed cereals with different fruits and the mixed veggies.

I'd just mix things for new flavors. Personally I don't give any meat till they have teeth.
