Default Anyone have a factor V mutation?

Hi,

I guess I get to post here now. We'll be starting to ttc again in Oct if all goes well. The doc has said the usual about the loss probably being due to a chromosomal abnormality, but today I found out that bw done before I got pg showed I am heterozygous for factor V mutation (blood clotting issue). I'm a bit annoyed they never told me bacause I did ask repeatedly, and now I'm wondering if this could have cause our miscarriage in the first place. Any one familiar with this?

I wasn't familiar with it, but I just looked it up out of curiosity and found this site which seems to have really great information about it:

It seems that it most likely would impact the risk to you in developing a blood clot while pregnant, or also references a potential risk of 2nd trimester miscarriage. This states that 10% of people with heterozygous factor v mutation end up having a blood clot incidence in their lives in comparison to 100% of those with homozygous. It also suggests that even those with heterozygous mutation be treated with heparin during pregnancy.

Definitely worth learning more about and talking to your doctor.

Big big hugs to you.

Thanks for the link and the hugs. I need hugs these days. Good info on that site.

I met with my OBGYN yesterday to discuss my D&C, and she says since I have this diagnosis now, that she'll be giving me heprin as a preventative measure for the surgery, and recommended I take it if I get pg again.
