Unhappy Loss #4 (kinda long)

Well, our fourth loss (3rd D&C) is now complete.

We arrived at 6am to a private room on the L&D floor. Usually we're just in the c-section recovery bay (which is always filled with wheelchairs, extra equipment, isolettes, etc) but they sent us into an actual room this time.

Then we got some good news--the nurse who would be with us this morning was the nurse who was at our first D&C and who had previously delivered Charlotte during our placental abruption. She saved both Char's and my lives that day and it was a big relief to see her.

I mentioned the private room and she said that they had two c-sections scheduled early this morning and they didn't want me to have to be in the same area as those ladies with their babies.

I appreciated that thoughtfulness.

They gave me an early dose of Versed because I mentioned a disappointing previous experience with not being medicated before getting to the OR. Of course, after an hour of waiting, the Versed had worn off, so they gave me another dose and took me off to the OR. I woke up 40 minutes later back in my room and it was finished.

They're sending the "products of conception" to the lab again for chromosomal analysis. After a couple of graham crackers and a Sierra Mist, we were off. Andy and I went to the local blood lab to have our blood drawn for the karyotyping so we can figure out if there's some kind of translocation or something in one of our genes that could be causing these problems.

We'll follow up with my OB in 4 weeks to determine where we go from here.

For now, Andy's taking good care of me and I did minimal work today (made dinner, straightened the family room, braided the girls' hair). Andy went into work tonight since he was home with me all day so I'm alone on the couch with the laptop now.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. The phone calls, PMs, and post responses are more helpful than you may ever realize.

Here's to growing a big fat belly with all of you!!

I am so glad that in this painful time you were treated with tenderness and respect by the hospital. Take care of yourself.
