Default Water?

Is it ok to give boiled cooled water to newborns? Since it's getting really hot and humid, instead of overfeeding Avery, can I offer her a small amount of water to quench her thirst?

I'm assuming you are not breastfeeding.

I think an ounce or two a day is okay. But not too much or it will be a problem. I'd check with the ped to be certain.

Check with YOUR CHILD'S ped before you give water....

I breastfed both of my kiddos... BUT they could both use a bottle as well. One of my boys was born in May and in the summer that followed, I asked the Ped THAT VERY SAME QUESTION!!! He said that he is most likely getting all the liquids that he needs from the milk... but it would be ok to give an ounce or two, but not when it's close to feeding time!!!

My midwife said that breastfed babies do not need water, your milk is just perfect. Her exact words were, "Water is for pot plants, not babies!"

If you're bottle feeding it's totally fine, but if you are b/fing then NO.
