Default Allergies

I am really starting to think that Matthew has allergies. He has a runny nose, cough, itchy eyes, etc. I am really concerned that he might be allergic to animals, because when he went to my mom's today he was wheezing, coughing, and just miserable when I went to pick him up. She has 2 cats and a dusty house.

Do I have to go to the peds first or can i take him straight to an allergist? I don't need a referral for insurance. Anybody else's kid have allergies? What do you do for him/her?

If you do not need a referral you can go to a Pediatric allergist. We took Brooke when she was about 13 months old. She has all sorts of seasonal allergies and has outgrown a lot but certain times of the year (fall and spring really) she has to take allergy medication.

Avery has seasonal allergies as do Mike and I. She takes allergy medicine during the fall and spring. She takes Zyrtec which is over the counter and Benadryl at night if it is really bad. They prescribed her Singulair last year but we never had to use it.

They can also do allergy testing and allergy shots- if there is an allergy to the animals the shots can help so all is not lost! I get allergy shots and they help TREMENDOUSLY! I would go straight to the allergist if you can.

I would say go right to the allergist. Just ask them if you have to do anything special before you come. When we were supposed to come in for allergy tests dd needed to be off all allergy medicines for 5 day prior to testing.
Good luck! I hope you can find some relief for him.
