Default I think we have a name!

We really loved Gabrielle (Gabriel for a boy), but we have decided that it's a beautiful name, but too long. DP has a 4 syllable last name that is 9 letters and it really was a mouth full. Also, she would be the only girl with a nickname and DP really is against nn's and said that if we want to call her Gabby we should just name her that. I argued that someday she might have a business card and may prefer Gabrielle. So, we were at a standoff. Anyway, we have been thinking about the name Layla (like the Eric Clapton song) and have decided to spell it Laela (we considered Layla, Leyla, Laila and Leila). I know this name could have a lot of variations in the spelling like some of the trendy names right now, but I don't think this is a trendy name at all and don't see many variations of the spelling anyway. We just sorta threw some alternate spellings out there to see what we liked best. I liked the name Jade and we wanted to use Christine after DP's sister (my idea actually!). So we are 99.9% sure it's going to be Laela Jade Christine. But again, we still have that .1% wiggle room to change our minds. I think Laela is sticking, but Jade could be changed. This truly has been nerve wracking.

p.s. Chandra, somebody just told me that you named your little girl Laela, too!! I just went back and checked and I had to laugh when I saw that you took a poll on how to spell it!! We were so sure it was going to be Leila, but then my BIL suggested Laela and it just really looked so much better tous. I can't believe that there are TWO Laela's on this playgroup thread and they are spelled the same way!!!!! I saw on some of your threads that she is having some problems breathing. I am thinking about you and your little girl and hope that everything is ok. My 2nd daughter had MAJOR breathing difficulties and it turned out to be severe reflux (she is 14 months and still has it and is on Prevacid, Qvar, Albuterol, and when she gets a cold we have to do breathing treatments with her.

Agreeing on names is always difficult for me and my husband! I am so thankful that we have had boys so far....because I just don't see how we would ever agree on a girl's name!
