Default Need advice about sleeping arrangements

Hi everyone, I know I haven't been posting much-- it's crazzzzzy here- but I check in every day.

We are having a problem with sleeping arrangements. What has worked up until now is that Brady (1 1/2) and Josh (6) share a room. Matthew (4) has his own, much smaller room. The reason we decided to do this is that Josh is a sound sleeper who needs his 11 hours every night. He is asleep within 10 minutes of laying down, and he's the type of kid who would take himself to bed if I didn't bother to set a bedtime. Brady has always been the same way, sleeping through the night from about 9 weeks old. Matthew is just the opposite-- he needs to wind down, he lays in bed and talks, plays around, rolls around, reads (loudly) etc.

Well Matthew has decided that he is extremely hurt by having to sleep by himself. He claims he is lonely, and he gets upset every night at bedtime. On a couple of occasions, we have pulled matthew's matress into the other 2 boys rooms to just see what happened, and he cannot settle down and go to sleep like they can. He has been crying every night before bedtime. And it's not tantrum, bratty, I want my way crying-- it's genuinely hurt feelings/sad crying.

I have tried explaining that they need to sleep where they sleep best but he just doesn't get it. I'm not sure what else to try. I hate that he is so hurt but I am not willing to sacrifice the other boys sleep (they are demons if they don't get the proper amount of sleep!). Any ideas?

Let him earn weekend sleepovers with his brothers on the weekends. Make it fun with little tents on the floor and build it up as a treat????

Other than that is he being quiet when he does drag in the mattress?

No, when we drag the matress in, he is loud and keeps the other boys up. Usually around 9:00 Josh comes down crying in total disbelief at why ANYONE would be up "this late," or Matthew comes down crying because Josh has punched him for being too loud... He just gets so excited, and the other 2 find it funny, for a while. Then all hell breaks loose.

My vote is your Matthew and my Avery move in together... they sound like the PERFECT match!
