When Aedan was born, we had a Basset Hound that was totally my dog and had been for 7 years. She was my absolute love and we did everything together. I used to take her for rides and walks everyday. Then I got pregnant and I vowed that I would spend just as much time with her, well obviously that just couldn't happen. She had some adjustment issues and relly couldn't be trusted around Aedan. I had to keep them separate all the time because she would actually growl at him. Then when Aedan was about a year old, he was holding onto the couch and I was lying on the couch looking at him and playing with him. My Bassett Hound came lunging right for his neck- for NO reason and bit him. I was able to knock her back before she did too much damage to Aedan, he still had a small bite mark. It was AWFUL- the worst thing that could have evcery happened. Come to find out that Bassett Hounds are extremely jealous dogs and really should only be for families that can give them total attention. They don't do well with kids or other kinds of dogs. I didn't know this but of course, she had our sole attention for 7 years. Needless to say, I had togive her up to a Basset Hound rescue. I was completely crushed. I still have the vision of her jumping in the station wagon of the rescue and waving goodbye. Ok now I am crying!
