She got two shots - but they were combination shots. So they were for four different things - Chicken pox, MMR, DTaP and polio.

Honestly Cora handeled it really well - I am soooo proud of her!!! She actually let the nurse take her temperature and weigh her without any issues. She cried and said the shots hurt, but I had told her beforehand that they were going to hurt a bit. Dh went with me so he held her legs still while I held her hands and gave her love/talked her through it. She got to pick out a special cupcake from a bakery nearby so she was very happy about that.

Josh had to get those same 2 shots, and I was a little surprised because we never miss shots, yet he had to go in just to get them.

It was honestly the best shot appointment we ever had. I've never had them do this before, but they had me sit on this swivel chair and put my back on the wall. then they had Josh sit facing me on my lap, sort of straddling my legs. Then they had him "hug" me, and i put my arms over his lower arms. Then, they had him put his head on my chest, facing the opposite direction of where the shots would go. I used my free hand to snuggle his head.

The nurse told him everything she was doing, and then said "Ok, I'm going to count to three and ouchie. 1-2-3 ouchie."

Then he whimpered a little, and she said "ok, one more" and "ok, all done" and he looked at me like "That's IT Mom???" It really took the stress out of having to "hold him down" so to speak.

OMG Jen! Now you have me freaking out. I have always spread out vaccines, I do NOT want to do 8 different diseases at once. This sucks!!!

Chicken pox
Mumps
Measels
Rubella
Diphtheria
Tetanus
Pertussis
Polio

I'm sorry Dee!!!! Cora did really well with the two shots. You do not have to have the combo shots, we just chose that so she wouldn't have to get four individual shots. Cora is doing fine and hasn't had a fever or any other issues from the shots. Does Julia have to have them all before she starts preschool?

Jeanne - I LOVE the way the nurse had you hold your little guy. That sounds like a perfect way to give shots!

Jen, they are all on the list here, for Peoria County, too. She's already had everything (except chicken po so these will just be boosters but we spread them out a lot more than the regular shot schedule so she's never had so many at once. I already know I can sign a waiver saying we're delaying chicken pox for a year so I can put that one off. The thing that bothers me is EVERY.SINGLE.TIME Julia has ever had a vaccine, no matter what vaccine it has been, she runs a pretty high temp for 36 hours. I'm soooo worried about doing so many at once. I'm glad Cora did so well. And I can only imagine how relieved you are to have this out of the way. I haven't been able to sleep for the past few nights because I'm so worried about it. UGH!
