  • With the summer coming to an end and the schools starting back up in session, it’s easy to miss the voices and the lively atmosphere of summer break. Missing children who have gone back to school is not an uncommon feeling. Here are some informative writing ideas to help you get through those lonely moments.

    1. Make yourself a schedule of listing the activities that you would like to do during the week. Be sure to schedule in trips to the gym, grocery shopping or anything else you would like to get done.

    2. If you are someone who is looking for some adult interaction and meeting new people, check out the local gym or park district for classes that you can join. For example, a Tuesday and Thursday morning Yoga class is a great way to meet new people and get out. Be sure to work this into your schedule.

    3. Just because your child is in school doesn’t mean you cannot be together. Schedule to meet your child for lunch once a week. This is a great way to meet your your child’s friends. Younger children especially enjoy this.

    4. Ask your child’s teacher if they need any kind of volunteer help. Many teachers would love to have help grading papers or listening to readers. You can schedule to do this once a week. Chaperoning on field trips is a great way to meet other parents.

    5. Check to see what opportunities, paid or volunteer, are available at the school. Some schools need playground supervisors (could be a paying job) or photocopy help.

    6. Remember if you do spend time in the school, to give your child plenty of space as needed. While having lunch with you once a week may be a cool thing, spending every minute of the day may not be so cool for some kids.

    7. Gather up some of your friends and acquaintances to schedule a weekly coffee clutch or monthly luncheon.

    8. Start a blog. Decide what you would like to blog about. For example, you may want to blog about something you know a lot about or blog about your family. Joining blogging groups is a great way to make online friend and interact with others.

    9. Consider other social media outlets such as facebook and twitter to help you get through slow times.

    10. Consider ways to work at home if you are interested in having an income but, are not ready to leave the house. There are a multitude of ways to make money such as writing for the Yahoo Contributor Network.

    11. Consider taking a class to learn something new or finish a degree. If you do not want to leave the house, there are online classes for and not for college credit. Check your local community college for their adult education courses.

    12. Be careful not to fall in to outlets that may not be good for you. Keeping a variety of options in your schedule is a good way to prevent this.

Once you find your niche and plan you schedule, getting past those back to school blues should be a lot easier.
