Brent joined the Chess Club Ages & Stages

He is required to learn to play it in his GT class and they play once a month or so but his teacher offered them all the option to join a club that meets every monday to learn how to play better. He was excited. Such a nerd!

LOL! Milo's best buddy wants him to join too. I'm okay with it as it is just once a month at the library, but it does crack me up. I never thought I'd have a kid who wants to do chess club.

It is really good for them. I remember we learned chess in my 5th grade gifted class. I guess it teaches you different ways to think. I however never played again after 5th grade. LOL!

Marek just turned 5 and wants desperately to play chess. I was in the chess club in high school (and you can draw whatever inferences you choose to on my social standing

), but I'm not a great chess player. It's an awfully hard game to teach to a preschooler. I got a book about teaching chess to children, but it's still way over his head.

Back when I was a kid and up until recently when I heard about chess or chess club the first thing that came to mind was.......NERD ALERT!

However Leslie and I both really enjoy games and play quite often. When she found out I didn't know how to play chess she insisted she show me how. Now we plan not and then and I really enjoy it (even though she beats me most every time). It is a very difficult and thought provoking game to play!

Does Marek want to play chess or just play with the pieces? Leanna used to put the pawns to bed with the knights standing guard.

You're description of the way one of your boys plays with the Cars cars made me think of her playing with the chess pieces.

I saw once a chess set with the movements stamped on the pieces. I thought that was a neat thing for beginners.

I don't like to play chess because it makes me anxious. I think its because once upon a time I was able to plan/plot/decide what was going to happen far ahead and now my dud-brain can't think over one move ahead. :p
