He's ridiculously competitive, and just wants to find ways to take other pieces. He's so busy trying to "attack" that he doesn't notice or care that I'm putting his king in check.

Brent is extremely competitive and he makes me insane when I play games with him. He will drive you crazy if he loses checkers till he plays again and wins. Don't even get me started on monopoly. I have no desire to be taught how to play chess by him.

When I was growing up I was in the math club so I can't say much about social standings.

Maybe it is a first born thing, because my daughter is VERY competitive. I don't like to play anything but dolls with her. LOL!

I think it is hysterical that my son and his buddy (both second born/youngest kids) want to learn chess. They are the most non-competitive kids I've ever met. They both root for "both teams to win" and play only if it is fun and everyone is having fun, etc... Now my daughter would punch a baby (okay not quite) to win at Candyland. No game is too small or silly to try to beat everyone and win. LOL! She gets that from her uncle (another first born) who I refuse to play anything with. He is a grown man and will cheat if need be. We were playing Scrabble with his grandmother one time and he cheated and had a near hissy fit when we caught him. He pretty much took his scrabble board and went home. LOL! Geesh!

I was just as big of a nerd in school. Band and science club didn't score me any cool points. I think I was just too lazy to continue with the chess. Made my brain hurt.

Chess is a game I always wanted to learn to play but never have before.

Ryan's school has a really good chess club that won many competitions last year all over the state!
