Question Costume issue

We bought Nate a Spiderman costume for Halloween. We recently found out that his school is allowing them to wear costumes that day, but he doesn't want to wear the Spiderman one. Instead, he wants to wear a ladybug costume that is in his dress-up box. Not sure if the ladybug one fits him, but if it does I don't know if I want him to wear it. His class will be doing a costume parade around the school - going into different classrooms to show off their costumes. I'm worried that some of the older kids may make fun of him for wearing a "girl" costume.

Opinions?

Thanks.

I would highly discourgage it. Kids are mean and I know they would probably poke fun at him but maybe that won't bother him??

Though it is a sad thing to not encourage your child to be just who he wants to be, I would probably encourage against it as well. Perhaps allow him to wear the lady bug one during house to house trick or treating, but the Spiderman one (or something else you both find suitable) to the school parade.

If finances permit, maybe go shopping for something that makes him feel comfortable without it being so overtly "feminine". If that makes sense. Maybe even picking a different bug/insect that he would like? A bee might be more "manly" and still fun for him or a bird like an angry bird type of thing?

I know Milo with having a big sister and just his personality loves playing with Squinkie and Littlest Pet Shop toys, but is just beginning to realize that he doesn't want most of his school friends to know he plays with those "girl" toys at home. He thought the boy squinkies they have now like superheros and cars would fly with is friends, but nope, so now he just does that at home.

I'm sorry though. It is a tough and sad situation to make our kids compromise what they want or feel comfortable with for the sake of the opinions of others.

that is so cute that he wants to wear the ladybug, but I am with the others. It sucks that you should have to worry about it, but of course you do. Maybe you could tell him it doesn't fit right or that that costume is only for dress up at home. Worst case- let him pick out another (cheap of course) costume just for school???

I just read an article with a similar situation.

When did he get the ladybug costume? Could you convince Nate that it is a preschool costume for younger boys?
