Question Dealing w/ death

How do I explain to my 3 year old that my IL's dog went to doggie heaven or should I? My IL's unexpectatly had to put thier 7 yr old German Shephard down today. I know the next time we go over there, shes prob gonna ask where he went. At first I was thinking of telling her that he was sick and went to doggie heaven, but I dont want her to associate sickness to death. I didnt think I would have to deal w/ this already. Any suggestions?

If you're worried she is going to associate sickness with death, then stress to her that the dog was very poorly and wasn't going to get better.
Then whatever you wanna tell her about what you believe happens to you, or a dog, when it dies.
Good Luck, sorry to hear about the dog.

Sorry to hear about your IL's dog. We have talked to Ryan about heaven and that is where great grandma went when she died but he really does not get it. He knows she is gone and he is fine with it for now I guess. Best of luck breaking the news to her.

Thanks ladies! Well, my MIL stopped over yesterday..just in time for dinner...grr...My FIL wants a second opinion. We dropped the kids off later that night and he doesnt look like a dog thats ready to give up. He looks happy and healthy. He's eating and going to the bathroom and playing. She did show me the big bump near his anus, but other than that, he looks fine. They were getting another opinion sometime today.
