My kids are just the opposite of a bubble. We really encourage them to know what is happening not only in our community but in the larger world around them, nationally and globally.

I do think that my youngest, 8yo, is more of a worrier than my teenagers, and so I am a bit more careful about "graphic" news with her, but I don't hide basic information from her at all, just watered down to her level of understanding.

I think it is wonderful that Brent was able to absorb the information about Steve Jobs and share that in writing. It is important for kids to connect with modern inventors, artists, activists, atheletes and even politicians rather then just reading about people who lived hundreds of years ago.
