we have always talked about it, since we just live one state away, but always just end up shopping and buying locally instead...

My Uncle and Aunt bought all new furniture in NC after hurricane Andrew totaled their house. They said it saved them loads of money.

If your going to the Hickory furniture mart, it is pretty easy to get around, and you can haggle price and delivery with the salesmen.I've never gone to High Point for furniture so not sure how it is there.

Oh I agree if you're going to be buying a lot then it's definitely worth it.

We bought our couches (remember that saga) from a dealer in NC. I think their name was Captial Furniture DO NOT buy from them ever. But what I was going to say was we could have ordered the same idential furniture from a local place here but it saved us $700 to get it including paying for freight from NC. However we would have been able to deal with the furniture store a lot easier than the jerks we bought from over the phone.

If you were going to buy a lot of furniture and the cost of shipping it is done by a container not by pound then it would defintiely be worth it. Just from our experiences it did not save that much buying just a room or 2 at a time.
