That is a HUGE tree...and expense, I hate those kind of ridiculous expenses...it's not like you can negotiate or anything. At least it's done and they were able to "clean" up any other ones too.

Status quo here, quiet at work, kids started camp this week, having a blast. We leave for vacation next week and I can't WAIT!

They are still working at the house. Will take them about 3 days to remove it all. Then we have to deal with the other repairs and Nicole yes and no it's covered but they prorate it so for instance the roof needs replacing. Will cost $5000 or more but they will only give us $3500. The porch needs to be redone entirely and they will only cover about 2/3's of that cost. The house is 9 years old so they prorate it all on that basis.

And that is NORMAL for insurance claims this is not them ripping us off compared to other insurance companies.

It sucks but thats the way insurance is. I have something like a $10000-15000 deductible on earthquake insurance but if the house needs major work due to a quake it will cost much more than that.

Susan, what made the tree fall?

Just a regular old storm. The tree was apparently weakened though because it was hollow inside for about 20 feet up but you couldn't tell from the outside and in fact we hired an arborist to look at the tree before we bought the house.

I think there were some major straight line winds that day even though the storm didn't appear bad because a tree was down across the road about 1/2 mile up, my neighbor lost 2 trees and one fell in the horse pen also.
