Default I told Leanna about Santa

I had to tell her the truth. She wants everything she sees and if I say no she just says she'll get it from Santa. We were looking at kitchen tables and she saw a loft bed she wants. When I told her we can't afford it, she just said "its ok, Santa will bring it". Thinking back, I should have just said Santa only brings toys but I didn't think of it at the time.

I didn't want her to be disappointed on Christmas day when she didn't get what she expected from Santa so I thought it was better to tell her now. I thought she'd be really upset but she wasn't. She was just kind of mad but she got over that quickly.

Wow! Good for her! I think kids these days are a lot smarter or I was just oblivious. I will never forget my mom told me on the sofa and i bawled like a baby. I had no idea or didnt see any clues. My mom cried with me as well. Im surprised Kaitlyn hasnt questioned it yet, since she curious about everything these days.

When my kids were young, a friend gave us the idea that Santa brings just 1-2 gifts, and the rest are from us. For one, if there was ever a financially hard xmas, the kids could always be provided with Santa gifts and would never think they had been "bad" that year. For another thing, we want the kids to know that for the most part, we fund Christmas with our money. Now how this will end up working out as the kids get older, who knows???? lol.

Glad she took it well.

We do the same Jeanne. Santa brings just one or two things , the rest is from us and we've even told our kids we have to pay Santa back for the presents because my smartie pants oldest child a couple of years ago (he was 8 then) was saying well if can ask for anything why not just ask for a million dollars that way you can buy what you want. So I told him that mom and dad still have the right to tell Santa NO to certain things because we don't agree (like a cell phone for a 6 year old) and that we have to pay Santa back after Christmas.

I guess I'm a weirdo as I'm going with the whole "if you don't believe in Santa you get underwear" motto. LOL!

Mellie who used to be here at TBC told me that and I loved it. So even if the kids don't believe at some point, you need to keep the charade and spirit alive for those that still do. If you don't....underwear. LOL!

I do however think that at some point I'll need to explain it in more detail to Milo. Kids with Asperger's are known to truly believe in things like Santa, Easter Bunny, etc...unless told. That won't be fun.

Glad Leanna handled it so well.

We also do the one present from Santa thing and the rest from us. It has worked out better than the first years when the kids thought EVERYTHING was from Santa. It was also for selfish reasons. I hated "santa" getting all the credit when I slugged through stores, wrapped the perfect gifts, etc...
