I do not let my 16 or my 14 yo have a facebook. I do let my 16 yo add a select few of her friends to my facebook so that she can contact them if she needs to, and so she can see their photos and such, but I have not let her have her own.

Since we just got her a laptop for Christmas I am considering letting her make a facebook of her own, but it would have strict rules. Her laptop has an internet lock and a keystroke monitor already, so anything she does would be trackable anyway. What I don't like about kids and facebook is them putting their emotions on there to share with the world. I think that they don't learn real private coping mechanisms, and they learn to rely on people responding to their every emotion. I dislike that immensely.

Every child is different and I think that properly monitored it can be okay, but then I think that most parents get lazy and complacent after awhile.

Ryan's 10 and asked about FB...some of his friend have accounts...but I'm not comfortable with him joining just yet.
