So Josh has been practically begging me to play tackle football this year. I don't particularly care for some of the strategies I personally have seen with coaching young boys in football (no offense to anyone who plays/coaches, etc) and I also am concerned about the safety of the whole thing on their young bodies.

So, in an effort not to squelch his dreams (lol), I did what sounded reasonable to me/us. I told him he could play flag football this year, and that he could ask our pediatrician when we saw him next at what age he felt it was safe for a boy to play tackle football. We said that we feel the doctor knows these kinds of things, and we would abide by whatever age the doctor said.

Well, yesterday Josh tagged along to the other boys' physicals, and asked the doctor. The doctor said that he feels Josh can play at whatever age he wants to, and it's no less safe than soccer. I didnt feel quite as smart as I felt when I originally made the deal, but we are going to go along with what we said.

Im kinda hoping that Josh will love flag football so much that he will decide to play that again next year. He is all signed up- which I am excited about. I hope he likes it.

My boys love tackle football. Flag football is not even offered here. Tackle starts at age 5. Our Pediatrician told us that Soccer is the worst sport there is to play because there is NO protective equipment and he sees more serious injuries with soccer than any other sport.
