Thanks for asking Susan. The office was great and the kids did great as well. The kids both walked out of the appointments with a big bag of loot. Water bottle, T-shirt, fancy toothbrush, bouncy balls, etc... The "junk" totally won Ilijana over. Milo was impressed with the TV in the chair and that they let him pick Wall-E while they cleaned his teeth.

Unfortunately Milo seems to have inherited my horrible teeth that crumble it seems. He has at least 3 cavities and will need sedation to have them all filled. He is not one for sweets and still lets me brush his teeth once a day (he does the other time on his own) and has a lot of decay. Ilijana thankfully had no cavities. She's my living breathing sweet tooth, brushes herself only (and not usually well) and her teeth are strong as anything. LOL! Go figure.

She however has a really tiny mouth and they want her to see an orthodontist in the next 6 months. I personally am not ready for orthodontics, but I guess they start this stuff sooner than they used to. I also think they do some of this needlessly, but we'll see.

I was really proud of how well the kids did and how awesome the office staff handle two slightly difficult patients.

:-)

Not looking forward to sedation for Milo though. UGH! I postponed the tonsillectomy due to my anesthesia concerns, and here he is ending up needing it for dental work? Go figure! :-)

Glad to hear they did well. Sorry about Milo's cavities. You need to get them taken care of soon though and I'm betting you're going to wish you'd done the tonsils when winter season gets here. I hope I'm wrong but he had some major illnesses last year with his tonsils.

I think Brooke will be at the ortho soon. Her front teeth don't look right to me. And she has 2 friends with braces on their front teeth at age 7 already.

I hear ya on the teeth Nicole. Ryan had to have a filling on Monday and he did so well but I felt so guilty. I brush my teeth twice a day but do not floss like I should and I have had many cavities so I guess it is genetic. I hoped Ryan would not be like me but we shall see. He brushes and then I take a turn but flossing is no fun with him for sure!

Susan, I know I'm going to regret the tonsillectomy, but we had real reasons to wait. Dh's brothers kids were scheduled for their adenoids to be taken out when the surgeon canceled. Apparently when the anesthesiologist looked at their charts, he wouldn't perform the surgery in an outpatient facility. Our niece (who I'm certain is on the autism spectrum) was born floppy and had to see a neurologist when she was a baby. They never determined the cause but she's had lots of delays and still is delayed in my opinion.

However just having that floppiness/hypotonia puts her (and apparently my nephew as well) at risk of something called malignant hypothermia if they are ever put under for surgery. It is deadly if they carry that gene/trait.

It is largely a genetic inherited trait. My nephews all have various neurological issues going on (one has major tics and the other is like Milo where he can't sit still, bounces around, etc... and our niece is DD's age and still has big delays) so to me, Milo needs to get this risk ruled out first before I even think of putting him under.

Seeing DH's brothers kids this past month really freaked me out. They all have various tics, stims, neuro issues. DSIL just isn't going to ever get them tested, diagnosed as they are all doing fine in school, etc...

It struck me as crazy how genetically based all their issues must be. That the brothers really have some genetic trait that their offspring all somehow express. Their sister however doesn't seem to directly carry those traits as my other nephews have none of these burdens.

I'm not sure what our docs are going to do to rule it out, but I know at the very least we can figure out other drugs to use to avoid the risk. It will still have to be in a hospital setting though, and not one of the outpatient sites.

One thing DH's family does have is amazing teeth. They never brush, never go to a dentist and when if they do....perfect teeth. LOL! DH's one Gram (who is in her late 80's) still has her teeth. My side has horrible teeth. Brush twice a day, floss, dental cleanings twice a year and every appointment, fillings. LOL! Milo is his Dad's double, except for his hair and apparently my awful teeth as well. Ili seems to have gotten the good teeth gene from DH.
