Default Tybee Island Beach

I took the kids on Friday there. This was the beach close to where we use to live but now it's over an hour away so we got to Hilton Head Island these days. The kids really don't remember Tybee but hear a lot about it so I told them I'd take them. NOW I remember why I dislike it so much. Parking is a freaking nightmare and it's 3 times as expensive. The beach is way overcrowded and dirty because the city doesn't groom the sand. They also removed all the showers to conserve water so you have to leave really sandy and drive home which I hate especially if the drive is over an hour.

The only cool thing about that beach is they have a nice pier and you can get fair food if you want it. I told them to enjoy it because it would be the last time we go there.

We did have fun though. My nephew and his wife joined us and we all hung out all day long. I had to drag the kids away at 6 PM. All 3 kids got stung by jelly fish and so did my nephew. No big deal though they got sprayed at the lifeguard stand and was back in the water 10 minutes later. You can really tell tourists on days like that because they have no idea what happened or what to do when they get stung and most refuse to reenter the water. My kids run out , drop their boogie boards , yell I got stung and run straight for the lifeguard.

I didn't know lifeguard stands had spray for jellyfish stings. I used to be petrified of jellyfish!

I have no idea if they groom the beaches here in CA I always figured dirty beaches were from dirty people littering.

We went to Huntington Bch last week and parking was $15! Only I wasn't charged because I have a handicapped card - I'm not sure why I didn't have to pay with the card but I wasn't complaining!

Sounds like a lot of fun despite the unsavory conditions. I agree about the showers. It just stinks riding that long sticky and sandy. Yuck!

You really can tell a difference in beaches for sure. My kids call the one beach we went to on a trip "skunk beach" to this day as it was smelly and littered.

What brave beach kids you have. I think mine would have freaked even if we were local. Then again my two are wimps. I am too though, so they get it honestly.

Picturing your crew just strolling to the lifeguard and heading back out, and then thinking of my two screaming like they were eaten by a shark makes me laugh.

We never had lifeguard stations at our beach in Florida. We lived right on it so depending on the sting we either rubbed some wet sand on it or ran home and put a meat tendrizer poultice on it. The only bad one I ever had was by a baby portugese man'o'war. I was more then a 1/4 mile from the house wading and got stung and had to limp back.

Those things are nasty stings Laura! I had a friend that got stung last year and her foot was messed up for weeks.

My kids are not wimps when it comes to outdoor stuff. Then again I don't make a big deal over babying them when something natural happens like falls, stings etc. I deal with it matter of factly and screaming doesn't help make it better.
