  • I have been trying so hard to get Max potty trained, but nothing has worked yet. We have 50/50 custody and I am pretty sure his dad hasn't done anything with him. Can you give me some ideas that help. He will be 3 in September and I would like him at least no accidents by then, but not all the way as I do not want to push him.

  • I'm sure you've heard that boys tend to take longer than girls. Your worry about pushing him is valid, as children will just try to resist things they are not ready for. Negativity is a hallmark of toddlerhood. Just keep being consistent, asking and encouraging, celebrating when he's able to use the toilet successfully, and being sure not to scold or punish when he has an accident. He'll get there, promise! From Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, some signs of not being ready are: doesn't care if diaper/pull-up is wet or messy, hiding to go have a bowel movement, going to the bathroom but then peeing or pooping on the floor, or being totally disinterested or resistant.

    Good luck!

  • Thank you! I have been consistent, but it getting so frustrating...I have heard that boys take longer than girls as my mom said that with my brother and I.

  • Our daughters were trained at 2 1/2 and 22 months (yeah, that second one was a DREAM!) but our son didn't train until right around his third birthday this February and even still, he sits on the toilet (backward) instead of standing. I don't know when he'll start standing to go but for now he still sits.

  • Ya it's even more frustrating when his dad doesn't do anything, he says he does, but all I've ever known him to do is lie so I don't know what to believe.
