Potty Training Normal?

  • We are only on day 2 of potty training my first son, 2 1/2. I am not being impatient just curious if this is normal and will take time or a sign that he isn't ready. He will pee just a little bit in his underwear and that is when he realizes he needs to go and then we go and pee on the potty. So, is this normal or a sign that he doesn't understand the have to go feeling. Would you keep working with him? Think he will be able to understand soon?

  • Very very normal. Keep working with him and good luck. When they're that old there is no "I have to go pee" feeling, it's "I don't have to pee" or "I'm about to explode"!

  • Ok thanks. I was just worried he didn't understand. He has only had maybe 2 full on accidents. He just will pee enough to wet his underwear then he starts screaming and running for the bathroom and finishes on the potty.

  • That's actually good progress (even if it doesn't seem like it). Also just to warn you most kids will get potty trained to pee well before they are potty trained to poop!
