Default Update and GI appt.

Hope had another GI appt. yesterday. She weighed in at 12 lbs 8 oz and she is now 24 inches long. She has been doing pretty well on Prevacid, although in the last week or so she has been spitting up more (but not in any pain). The doc thinks she is doing well and we are going to keep her medication the same. She will be 5 months next week and he really encouraged us to start solids. He suggested be give her one tablespoon of oatmeal cereal in one bottle a day. He thinks it will help her reflux to get some solids in her because she can only drink 4-5 oz of breastmilk. Just as the rice cereal helped keep the milk in her tummy- the oatmeal cereal will do the same and help prevent reflux. I kind of have mixed feelings about this as I was resoved to not give her anything but breastmilk until she was 6 months old, but if it will help her feel better?? Also, I am still home for the next 3 weeks so it is a good time to start solids (very slowly of course). The doc also said that I can try adding some dairy back into my diet (yay!) and see how she handles it...her digestive system should be mature enough to handle it, but we will have to try and see (I had some frozen yogurt last night so we will see if that effects her). For those of you with older babies how old were your muchkins before you started solids?

On a totally unrelated note- I had it out with my mom last week. I have mentioned before that my parents take care of my niece and nephew (my sister's kids) while they are working. They work a TON and my mom and dad's lives TOTALLY revolve around my sister and BIL's schedules. We are always the LAST thing to be scheduled and the FIRST thing to get cancelled. My parents hadn't been over here to see Hope since my birthday (early Nov)...we saw them twice for family pics and Thanksgiving, but they hadn't been over here. Last week they were supposed to come over at 5 on thurs. My mom called at 4:40 (they are about 30 mins away, well it's really only 20, but 30 with the way my dad drives, lol) and my mom said they were going to be late (she was baking brownies for a cookie exchange for my niece). I said that was fine- she said they would be over at 6....WELL at 6 she calls and says the brownies weren't done so they were just leaveing...WHAT???? We hadn't had dinner as we were waiting on them so we were STARVING and HELLO we have a little baby that goes to bet around 8:30 or 9...so WHAT'S THE POINT??? I was SO MAD I read her the riot act on the phone. DH was so surprised because I don't usually confront my parents about stuff, but I had had it. I told her how ridiculous it was and how we are always the last thing on their list. Of course she denied it, cried and tried to make me feel bad, but I held strong (I didn't even yell- I was so proud of myself). Anyway...to make this already long story shorter- she called me back later after she had calmed down and said she didn't want us to feel that way- so they did come over yesterday around 2 and stayed for dinner. I think it is really good that they knew how we were feeling because they just couldn't see it. Sorry for the long rant, but I just had to share!

Presley is almost 4 months old and I am about to start solids. She wants to eat more often now even with 5 oz so, I will let you know how that goes when I do it. I am sorry about your parents. Maybe they had no idea how you felt. I bet they will be around more often from now on.

All of our kiddos were around 4-5 months when we started solids. Good luck.

And GOOD FOR YOU talking to your mom. I've been in a similar situation and honesty really is the best policy.

I know it probably wasn't easy but you'll be glad you did it.

Joseph had a little rice cereal now and then at the end of 3 months but didn't really get going with solids until almost 5 months.
