Thumbs down fed the ducks today

So today (and the next 2 days as well) was a 1/2 day at school so that they could do parent/teacher conferences.
After lunch, I took the kids to the Rhododendron gardens so they could feed the ducks. It's a gorgeous fall day (sunny and 65 out) and Andrew has been begging to go feed the ducks for literally months.

So I went, bought a buch of duck food - and we headed down the path to go feed the ducks.
Now - I know they're hungry this time of year (in the spring, they're well fed with the oodles of visitors who come, but fall is rather short in the visitor department), but the ducks were practically swarming us for food.

Poor Sarah, she's so dang terrified. She ran out of the duck food (I told her if she gets scared to toss out a little handful to the ducks and they would stop coming at her). So she ran out of duck food immediately because she was tossing out giant handfuls because there were SO many ducks coming at her and she was screaming "I"m out of food! MOM!!!"
and the ducks were coming toward her and coming and coming and she started shrieking (that I'm sure could be heard a mile away) and giant tears were coming out her eyes as the ducks raced over toward her thinking they'd get fed.
The poor thing....
I've told her a million times that all she has to do is stick out her foot and they'll move out of the way... but she's just so frightened of them.

Andrew, of course, didn't care at all. He hardly used any of his food (about 1 quart) and Sarah used an entire gallon bag of duck food and ran out long before Andrew.

One day - I hope she won't be so fearful of everything.

It will come. Heck- if my kids are scared of something, they'd be doing more than freaking out- they'd be climbing up me or a tree or bench, what ever was handy and higher. You should see Abigail when there is a dog she doesn't know around- she's up in my arms faster than you can blink.

I don't like it when any type of animal swarms me!! I'd probably kick the ducks out of panic! Were there any geese there?? We cannot feed ducks around here because there are geese problems everywhere. They are disgusting birds.

Leanna would be the same way as Sarah.

A word of warning - don't store duckfood in the pantry unless its tightly sealed & even then don't open it in the house. I had a pantry full of moths after I opened a bag wondering what the white thingys were.
