Red face I gotta give her points for the idea

So the other day, I bought the book "The Velveteen Rabbit". It's a classic. A must-have for the home library.

Well, I read it to the kids while we were waiting at the Drs office a few weeks ago. They were fascinated with the whole story.

I need to preface by saying that Sarah (and Andrew but more Sarah) have been asking and begging for a pet for the longest time. All DH and I can commit to right now is the goldfish
Still, Sarah asks and begs chronically....

So, a couple days after the story was read Sarah started playing with her white stuffed dog a little more (the dog's name is "star").
Then she started pretending it was real. Now she's going on and on as if the dang dog was real. All of a sudden it dawned on me.

she's trying to love the dog enough to make it real like in the velveteen rabbit story.
Since we won't get her a real one, she's going to make one become real for her.

I have to give her credit for the thought and trying. But now it's really REALLY getting on my nerves. I want to throw the dang stuffed animal in the garbage and get rid of them all so she'll stop obcessing about it day in and day out.
Maybe it would be easier to just get her a real dog.

Ooh my kids argue with me all the time that their stuffed animals are real & have feelings. Sometimes I have to kiss a few of them goodnight.

The Velveteen Rabbit is one of those books I can't read without crying.

That is just too cute. I hope for your sake she moves on to something else.
Natalee had an imaginary friend kathy (that I threw out the car window after droping Natalee at school) I COULDN'T TAKE HER ANYMORE.
