Red face I swear I spend more time

in the classroom now than I do at home!!

I think I volunteer too much

today, I went to Sarah's classroom with my skydiving gear and some pictures and charts and stuff and talked tot he class about skydiving and how it relates to air (they're discussing and discovering things about air in their science unit right now)

Man, those kids were SO attentive!
they had so many GREAT questions too!

I had one of the kids wear my parachute rig on their back (which is quite heavy at 35lbs so I had one of the bigger boys wear it) and then they all watched as we simulated how it would come out of the container if he were in the air.
the kids ATE it UP!!
they all were so amazed at the parachute and they were really REALLY getting the concept of air and it's manipulation and what air is composed of etc...
I spent over an hour talking to them and I finally had to tell them no more questions... I'm done!

Tomorrow, I go into Sarah's class to be their 'secreat reader'.

It's pretty funny because I'll be in the school, and 100 kids (25 from all 4 2nd grade classrooms) will see me in the hall and will all start waving and saying "Hi Mrs. York!"

(the same goes for Andrew's class too except I get "Hi Andrew's Mom!" )

Fun! I bet the kids just ate that up- so much more "real" to them that just talking about air.

I start going into Jacob's class one hour a week to help out with guided reading groups soon. I can't wait. (I still get "Hi Jacob's mom" and "Wow- you're TALL!" )
