Britax seats are good for 6 yrs. Unless the seat has been in an accident or has been thrown or dropped from a high spot in the garage to the cement floor its fine to use! I would absolutely use the seat in your situation! You know the seats history and its well within its use dates. Here is a link to the manual if you need it:
 


I don't think there have been any safety recalls on the Companion. I'll look around for you just to make sure though!

I looked around and the Companion was recalled, but that was yrs before your seat was made so it doesn't effect your seat.

Use it happily! I'm borrowing a friends seat that is nearly 4 yrs old and has been through her 2 kids. I'm only doing this as I know she's kept the seat safe. I'd never use a seat that I didn't know the history of it!!!!

USE IT -- assuming it comes back clear. You can just call Britax and the they will let you know if it's still in service.

I think they are good for like 5 years! Of course check the date but I think its 5 (I have 3 and all 3 of mine are good for 5!
