Default 911 or some other number?

There are a bunch of freaking idiots shooting off fireworks - the kind that is illegal here in NC - and if they shoot off one more cannon close to my house I am calling the Sheriff's Dept. What number would you use? I hate to dial 911 to be the disgruntled neighbor, but there really isn't an "after hours hooligan hotline" either.

call 911 and when they answer, say - this is not an emergency.

Won't they be pissed?

The fireworks must be some idiots out there who think they are funny. They must be walking the neighborhoods, because they gradually got fainter and fainter, but still going strong. What a bunch of doofuses!

no - not if the first words out of your mouth are 'this is NOT an emergency'.

I've tried using non-emergency numbers (they're the numbers in the front page of your phone book) and I always seem to be told to call 911 anyway.
shooting off fireworks is very dangerous and worthy of a 911 call... not just becuase its disturbing the peace.
