Actually I think my health insurance paid it, not my dental insurance. Talk to his doctor/dentist and ask. I had all 4 of mine out when was a freshman in college. No fun at all!

I had 2 out (I only have two to begin with I was born missing teeth)
and I had my 2 out at different times.
My insurance paid for most of it but I did have to pay some out of pocket.
I also had both of mine done different ways.

one ended up having a giant hole in the back and the other had me stitched up. They were done by different Drs.

I tried to get both taken out at the same time when I had the first taken out ... it was bothering me... but the insurance companies really don't 'just take them out' as a preventative measure. And if one is bothering you, they'll ONLY pay for the one, not the other.
thus, why I had mine taken out at different times.
My second one was super impacted and when they took it out, it damaged the nerve in my lower jaw. The feeling slowly came back.. . mostly... but its still not quite right many years later so there is some serious risks with the surgery.

$800 sounds about right. Its a major surgery when it's impacted.

Thanks everyone, dh is having the 2 lower ones removed tomorrow morning and I will be taking off to take care of him.

I'm really looking into some dental insurance, specifically Delta Dental. It costs about 290.00 for the year for the whole family.

Oh and I really wasn't serious about sending the in-laws the But I admit that "thought" crossed my mind.

I had Delta Dental once upon a time, I wish I could remember if I liked or disliked them.
