Default Babysitter Pay Question

My wfie and I are in disagreement over this and I wanted some opinions.

If you have a babysitter in the evening and part or half of thier time is while the kids are asleep, should they get the same hourly pay for all the hours? For example, you have a babysitter over from 6pm-midnight and she puts the kids to bed at 9pm.

I say it should just be the same so it's not complicated. My wife thinks the pay should be cut in half for the time when all the kids are asleep.

I think it should be the same- their main job is the kids safety and the sitter being there while they sleep is definitely a safety issue. And I used to babysit as a teen and would have felt pretty jipped if I got half-pay just because the kids were asleep. I mean, I fed them, possibly bathed them, and got them to bed and now I am staying to ensure they are still asleep and watched over. I'm probably doing dishes and straightening up any toys or things the kids left out. So yeah, same pay.

Well we're in the same corner. I used to babysit too and I would feel shorted too.

Yeah, I don't think you should change the pay if the kids are asleep. I mean you wouldn't pay somebody less in a store just because there were no customers around for two hours. They are there as needed.

I would pay one rate per hour regardless of whether the kids were in bed or not. You never want to downplay the babysitter's responsibility while your children are in his or her care.
