I agree, ask around. I have a friend that is very involved in her church & has invited Dh & I, but it a large church & Dh does not like big churches. But she was able to give us the name of a church on our side of town that she had visited before she found her church & said she would attend if she lived closer. We did try it out, but we haven't been back since. Not b/c we didn't enjoy it; dd certainly enjoyed the nursery, but when we looked around during church & after it let out, we didn't see many people our age & we didn't agree with some of the things the preacher said. We haven't yet tried another church, but I hope we do. It would be nice to meet other couples our age with little kids since many of our friends from pre-family days are still young, single & childless & go out drinking all the time. OR they have kids of their own & are too busy to hang out & are not interested in attending church.

Yes, that's where we're at. I know that there isn't going to be a church where I agree 100% with what the preacher says, but I definitely want to share most of the ideals presented. We also live in kind of a small area, not near any big towns, so there is not a lot of choice when it comes to churches either. Most of my local friends don't go to church, except for my good friend whose husband (and FIL and his father too) are pastors at their church. We tried it and I liked it, but dh doesn't want to go back because he's heard the stories about what goes on there--- where people wouldn't let their child be in my friends bible school class because my friend has read harry potter, the idea that she had to "sneak" down to this mom's day trip to a casino, etc. I know that stuff goes on everywhere but the idea that I know about it going in....

Dh's friends from the 'old days" have kids who are much, much older than ours, and my friends live hours away where I went to college, or are still single and living it up.

It's definitely something I want to work on before the kids get too much older.

I think it depends on your religion a bit. With us being Serbian Orthodox there is only one church in our direct area so we have to go there. LOL!

There are other churches nearby but here you sort of have to go where you live.

I know DH's family is catholic so they have a couple of churches to choose from usually but still only a few.

I know we have only one big Episcopal church, etc...

If you aren't too into which denomination then I say just go and try out a few churches each week and see where you "fit".

DH and I did that when we weren't sure if we were doing Orthodox or Catholic and it was kind of fun. Everyone is SUPER nice to the new folks. LOL!

I think we're looking for a non-denominational christian type church. DH was raised in a methodist church, and my mom raised me catholic but we didn't go to church. She had always gone but my father was divorced when they met, so her priest wouldn't marry them. She even had trouble finding a priest who would baptize me, even though they were married when she got pregnant and I was born.

I'll add that most churches have activities during the week, not just Sundays. See if any churches have weekly meals or something like that and maybe test the waters by going to one of those.
