Default Cough...

I've read a million times about chronic bronchitis and with the excetion of my age and the fact that I do not smoke, I'd say I have it. BUT I've also been to the Dr a million times for thid dumb cough that I get every year and it lasts forEVER. They always tell me the same darn thing, and it really doesn't help. They always tell me it's bronchitis, take robitussin or mucinex, drink lots of water, and all that. Like i said, it never works!

SO, what can I do?

See an allergy specialist and make them also check you for asthma.

Have you tried Claritin or Zyrtec? If you do, give them both at least a week or two to start.

I never thought of an allergy Dr for my cough! THANKS! Are Claritin or Zyrtec ok to take while nursing? The asthma thing wouldn't suprise me at all. My Dad has it, my Mom has it and my son has it (kind of), so it would make perfect sense, unfortunately! Guess I'll be getting on the phone tomorrow to make an appointment (or to get a referral for one!) Thanks!

I thought of allergies because it seems to be seasonal. A cough can be caused by sinuses draining because the crud that is draining is irritating. I don't know if either of those are ok when nursing but I know both are supposed to be safe long-term.

Also, in the winter, heaters and wood fires take out the humidity in houses and the dryness is irritating to some people. I was told it would be a good idea to set a teakettle on the wood stove when I use it to add moisture back into the air. You can try running a couple of humidifiers.
