Cool Disney Tips/Tricks?

We're going on our VERY FIRST family vacation in September to Florida and plan to hit Disney for a few days. We're not staying on the resort so we can't take advantage of the meal plans or other resort stuff.

BUT--we did enroll the girls in the Y.E.S. Program so we got cheap tickets that way.

Are there other tips and tricks we should know about? Help us out Disney experts!

Bring autograph books because all of the characters will sign books at all of the parks.
Go to a character breakfast if you have time. You will need to make reservations now. The food is good and fun and the characters come out and sit with you. The kids love it.
The fireworks show at Epcot has always been great, but you need to be there early to get a good spot to stand/sit.

Basics of course include sunscreen and water. Get those brita bottles that let you filter water fountain water. A little pricey but so much cheaper then buying from a vending machine.

Be prepared for long lines and if you and andy can switch off standing with a kid or two the other can take the antsy kid(s) walking around and look at stuff.

We were lucky to have the advantage of going on a weekday for part. Lines are probably going to be less long.
Get a good spot for the parades early. Benches and curbs fill up fast.

Backpacks for you and the kids is a great way to disburse stuff like cameras, water bottles, and such. Also if Alex will still sit in a stroller it helps keep him from getting overtired.

Thanks for the tips, ladies! Part of the reason we're going in September is because it's reported to be one of the "lowest attendance weeks" so we're hoping that we'll be able to take advantage of that part. And we're going to the park only on weekdays with the hopes that local season pass holders will be in school, thus, not at the park.

Are there certain attractions that are better than others? I went once right after high school graduation but I went with my uncle and it was a dud experience and DH hasn't been to Disney in probably 25+ years. So our Disney knowledge is archaic.

You can bring food into DL here in So Cal which saves a lot of money & time. I'm assuming its the same in Florida?
