Question Gently worn clothes question

For those of you who shop a lot at consignment shops and/or garage sales I need your opinions please.

My mom and I have spent the past two weeks getting ready for a HUGE twice a year consignment sale in a nearby town. All of DS's baby toys, clothes, and gear. Anyway a friend of mine asked if she could come over before I bring it all to the sale to sell and see what was there for her son's size. I said ok. But here is the thing - I am not sure how much to charge her for things? I am already not sure about the prices I have been placing on the stuff for the sale in general but I don't want to offend my friend. I am trying to make some money but I feel bad charging her too much even thou she specifically offered to buy the clothes and was not looking for free hand me downs. Since I make 70% of what the items sell for at the consignment sale, do you think it is reasonable to charge her 70% of what I would have asked for it there or is that too stingy? For example: a $3 outfit would make me $2.10 at the sale so just charge her the $2.10.

Advice is much appreciated!

This is just me, but if you'd make 2.10 off a $3 outfit at the sale, I'd say charge her an even amount to make it a little easier ($2 instead of 2.10) It just kinda makes it easier to keep track of, but obviously it's up to you

As far as pricing goes, around here they charge at consignment shops half of what you would pay for the item new (which I think is crazy). Then when you are selling to them they give you half of that. So brand new an item is $10, they sell it at consignment for $5, and the person selling to consignment gets $2.50. I hope that helps with pricing.

As far as selling to friends, I always keep out my really expensive stuff and let them go through all the stuff I don't care about. Then I give them whatever they want. I personally can't afford to give away that expensive stuff because it makes me the money I need to buy the kid's new clothes.

If you have things already priced, I would let her look at them and then give her a discount. Even if it is 30%, she'll feel like you gave her a deal and you won't lose out on anything.

Oh, I think that's fine. If she specifically said that she's not looking for hand-me-downs and offered to pay you fair price for the stuff, then do it. It'll probably make her feel better about it and you'll make some money in return.

I think the idea of charging 70% of your "list" price sounds like a good one.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
