I don't quite understand the equity between a pet and a child, but we do have a cat that we love. Probably because of how the ILs treat their dog equally as well as our kids and better than they treat me

Her real name is "Bella" but due to a series of unfortunate events, at one point she was shaved (shaven?) almost bald so the kids call her "Haircut Kitty" even though her hair has been grown back for a year at least. She is a himilayan that came running up to my feet when we entered my apartment buildign one day. I put up a "found" sign and nobody called for a week. Finally this freaky girl called after I'd already decided to keep her, and said she was hers. I returned her, bawling my eyes out, and even
dh (who was DF at the time) said "That cat is meant to be yours. She ran right up to you. My mom talked her into selling it to her/
us and she ended up agreeing to it. The girl wanted more money for her papers, and since we had no plans to breed her, we declined.
I've had cats my whole life growing up, and never had one as good as this one. She's small, is great with the kids and everyone else, hardly ever throws up and uses the littler box. She still plays with the kids even though she is getting old. She's actually a little too nice--- lets the kids pick her up, etc (I stop them when I see them but since she doesn't fuss I know they "play" with her when I'm not looking.) I don't know what we'll do when something happens to her, since I know how hard it is to find a good cat. She's going to be 10, so I'm getting nervous since these cats aren't supposed to live this long anyway.
