Default play kitchen

I am in the market to buy one for DD who is almost 2. There is one in particular that I LOVE but it is too expensive. What do you suggest for a kitchen? Is a simple one good enough? There are some with batteries and all sorts of gadgets and gizmos that I don't know what to get. There is even one made of wood? I am thinking plastic would be better. Any suggestions, opinions, experiences?

I know that there are many people who choose wood simply because it's wood. I know there are people who choose whatever looks like "pottery barn" simply because of the name and some elevated "jones'" status they think they'll have.

We had a plastic one that was nice because you could put it in a corner OR on against a wall (or freestanding). It had batteries and made the water sound and all that and my kids really liked the sounds.
they also loved the phone that it came with and the fact that there was a microwave and an oven place to put stuff as well as a sink and stovetop.

IMHO, just get what you think'll fit in your space that also fits your budget. Your kids will love whatever you get.

I chose to get the most "parts" of a kitchen that I could get. (ie: sink, stove, microwave.. )

I have this one because it's durable. I bought a plastic one that seemed like it would be destroyed quickly, so I sent it back. Nice thing about this is that the company will replace any broken parts free of charge at any time.

The plastic one I got was European. I think you'd be fine with one of the more durable ones from Little Tikes or Step2. I almost got this one:

I love the look of the wood ones, but they were more expensive and my kids wanted whatever had all the noises and gizmos, so they had a plastic one.

If you are not adverse to used I'd start scoping out the garage sales.

DD has the fisher price one that height adjusts-it is small, btu has a microwave, a sink, a cook top and a refrigerator. She loves to put things in and out of the oven and loves to turn to knobs which make noise. I never used it at the toddler height, but went straight to the taller setting.
