Question Questions about MARBLE JARS for those who use them

I decided that I would try the MARBLE JAR technique with my boys. In GENERAL... I think they're pretty well behaved, but there are certain things that I'd like them to improve on (of course

)!!

I wrote out a list for each child of about 10-15 expectations & jobs that they need to do throughout their day... 1 marble for each & 2 marbles for "RESPECT" at the end of the day (if they deserve it). We take AWAY marbles for fighting, flip-outs, disrespect & other rule-breaking during the day. (for example... climbing & jumping on the couches is a BIG NO-NO in my house A) 'cause it drives Dh crazy

, B) 'cause we have wood floors & someone is going to really get hurt one of these days. They lose a marble when they do anything BUT sit on the couch.)

It's been about a week & they're pretty into the idea of the whole thing.

-So... do you keep a list of what can earn them a marble??
-Do you change up the list?? (I think I need to add a couple more things now that they have the idea!)
-Do the kids have their "prize" decided for filling their jar already??
-(if so... what's the prize, &/or what has been the prize?)
-If you have 2+ kids, is one doing better than the other at filling their jar?

My OLDER son is doing much better with his jar than his YOUNGER brother. Of course we're DOING this whole marble jar mostly for the younger one anyways. He needs more reinforcement related to his behavior.

-So... do you keep a list of what can earn them a marble?? no, I don't have a written list. They know what earns them and loses them marbles
-Do you change up the list?? (I think I need to add a couple more things now that they have the idea!)yes, I add and subtract new stuff as needed or as their age dictates
-Do the kids have their "prize" decided for filling their jar already?? yes, the first time, it was a trip to ChuckECheeses. We don't take our kids there and they had only been there once briefly a couple years prior for a birthday party. They loved it. The next time they filled up the jar, I just told them they could pick one of anything from the toy store they would like. (no more than $40, though) This has gotten Andrew really keen because he has star wars stuff he'd love to buy that he knows he won't get otherwise.
-(if so... what's the prize, &/or what has been the prize?) see above.
-If you have 2+ kids, is one doing better than the other at filling their jar?yes, one is usually doing better than the other. Usually, its Sarah doing better, but lately Andrew has gotten onboard and Sarah has been losing marble after marble for her actions. It turns out that they usually finish pretty close to each other (within a week) and sometimes, at night, I help the slowpoke along with a few bonus marbles when they're not looking or give the slowpoke a few extra during the day for "good work" stuff when I see it just to help them catch up.

Ahh... thank you... I don't feel quite as guilty now

.

Andre has barely covered the bottom of his jar (he earns marbles... then loses them)... but Wes has nearly an inch of marbles already.

Andre needs to know that he's not making progress like Wes, so in the beginning, let him flounder and just help him out with "easy points" during the day so you have some marbles to take away from him for all his "bad" antics.

When the jars are much more established and he's bought into the whole deal and there really isn't a way for him to know that you've been adding marbles in his sleep (because he can't see the movement when the jars are 1/2 full but he can when there are just a couple in the beginning).

Sometimes, the hype of the 'succeeder' gets the flounderer to step up his program, you know...

Good idea, I think this might work with my 2, it's still Easter holidays here and they have been fighting, as in physically, a lot atm, so the idea of marble jars might work.
