Default "Sexy"

Well Justin Timberlake "brought sexy back" and LMFAO "is sexy and knows it". Now thanks to the radio my kids now have a word in thier vocabulary that I don't feel is very age appropriate.

Case in point, the other day my 7ry old told my 2.5yr old that she looked "sexy" in her Easter dress, to which my 2.5yr old replied "yeah zexy".

Leslie and I have told her we don't want her to use the word, but of course she questions why. Yesterday I asked her what she thought that word meant. She said she thought it meant "awesome", "that you're pretty", and then maybe "that you work out"!

She's smart enough that she will need some type of explanation of the word to justify why she shouldn't be saying it.

How would you explain what that word means to a 7yr old and why they shouldn't be saying it?

I think at seven you may not need to "justify" why it's not a good word. You are the parent and the word is inappropriate for her at that SHOULD be enough. I know it's not always that simplistic but there you go. The other thing I would suggest is not listening to stations that play those songs. I know it is easy to say but that's just me.

This is one of several reasons we don't allow our children to listen to mainstream music or watch most mainstream television. The lyrics to many of the "Top 40" songs are incredibly suggestive and really inappropriate for impressionable minds.

To keep them from hearing those songs, we don't listen to them either. We have our radio presets set only to stations that are appropriate for them--thereby making it only appropriate for all of us.
