My babysitter is always doing things with handprints for Tristan. If you arranged both hands rigth they could look like a heart.

Another idea with the fingerpainting...

FIRST THING is I STRIP the kids who are under 18mos!! Right down to their diapers & socks!! If it's a cold day... turn the heat up for 20min... but it's easier for them to be (nearly) NAKED than to stress about their clothes!!

Put blobs of red, pink, purple & white fingerpaints on the table.
Let the kids GO FOR IT right on the tabletop (fingerpaints clean up pretty easily). You can add some shaving cream (if you want) for a nice smell, renewed interest from the kids & an even easier clean up.

While they're doing that, cut out big white hearts from construction paper.

(Write the child's name on the back of the hearts first) At some point put the construction paper heart down on the table in front of the child... rub the back of the heart & then lift. You'll have a "print" of their fingerpainting on the heart.

I also use my computer to print out sheets of paper that say "Happy Valentine's Day 2009" with a big outline of a heart. I put out markers in various shades of pink, purple & red (you could use crayons too) and let the kids simply scribble. (Well... my older ones actually DRAW... but a 1yr old would scribble!!)
