what do you do when a child learns....

  • .... to just simply repeat anything and everything that she/he hears.
    example my nephew:- if you say ... please dont touch this....
    he will imitate in this very annoying tone
    "please dont touch tis...."
    then again i say: "dont speak like dat dear"
    and he will imitate again.. again in that annoying tone
    "dont speak like that dearrr"

    what do you do....

  • if they're old enough that they're being annoying on purpose.
    Then I say things like "Aunt Karen is the best"

  • Sometimes I get right on their level and do it back for as long as they can stand it!! I'll keep it going for a LONG time just so they really get the point that it's annoying

    Other times, I will just tell the child it is rude and annoying.

    I do the same as DCnanny.
    I'm older and I can be *much* more annoying than any child can.

    If it's not the right time, I go to my no-nonsense voice and my kids know to stop then or face serious consequences.

  • oh, yeah. Sometimes I do the same exact thing and it really does stop them in their tracks for a while.
