What Vechile for a Family of Five???

  • As most of you know we now have a baby girl, which makes for 3 kids, or a total family of 5 (minus the dogs!).

We currently have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which should be ok at least for another couple of months. BUT, we are going to need a larger vechile.

For those of you with more than 2 kids, what do you recommend? I'm just looking for any helpful tips at all. Also, I'd like to add that I'd PREFER not to go down the minivan route (not just for male pride reasons but we have a farm and do other activities that require at least some type of off-road capability).

  • Hey, my mini-van can go off road! LOL!

If we didn't get a mini-van, I would buy a Tahoe or Suburban or a Honda Pilot.

    Good luck.

  • Dh was totally not the mini-van type either, but we ended up getting a Dodge Grand Caravan and we love it! It has the stow and go seating in back as well as "under floor" storage in the middle. I'm not sure of it's off road capabilities, but we have taken it camping now and it works great for that!

  • We have 5 in our family and could not live without the Suburban. I love it! I drive and park that thing anywhere just like it was a compact.

I thought it would be harder but you get use to it really quick.

I have the captain seats in the middle row so I don't have to remove booster or car seats they can just walk through to the back! BIG plus if you have carseats for a while.

  • We have a Ford Windstar to carry the 6 of us and all our junk- the "sport" edition!

(Never could figure out how anyone could justify calling a minivan sporty! LOL) Even though I make fun of it- I LOVE the room.

When it finally bites the dust, dh said that's it for minivans! We've been checking out different SUVs.
