I have been in the health care industry for 15 years (RN BSN.) I think the media doesn't have anything else to talk about right now! The markets aren't doing great or falling fast. The election is over. No natural disasters lately. Obama is back for Europe. There is nothing else to talk about.

H1N1 is the FLU!!!!! That is it and that is all! 35,000 people die for the flu every flu season. It is the very young and the very elderly. This is the flu! The flu is pandemic every season and it doesn't make head lines.

Cover your cough, wash your hands and keep purell arround.

WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!!

It is just the flu! Not black death!

Sue

It is funny that you mention black death, I am reading a great book right now and everyone is dying of the plague, it kind of puts the swine flu thing into focus.
I think the media puts way to much focus on a lot of things and causes a panic.
In my heart of hearts I believe our economy wouldn't have crashed so hard if the media hadn't been so hysterical right from the start. I think they freaked people out and made it much worse than it had to be.

I agree! I am trying to be more careful about germs and washing hands, etc but I am not going to lock ourselves into our house over this! My MIL called worried about our trip to Disney World next week and I said "are you kidding? I am not cancelling our vacation over this!" If anyone feels even the slightest bit sick, we will get our butts to the doctor ASAP but otherwise, it is sad those sick and dying but life goes on.

My biggest worry isn't now because flu season is ending and even "flu pandemics" slow down at the end of flu season.

I do however worry about in the fall. I'm not freaking out or anything but I think if we need to be concerned it is going to be for it's possible more virulent resurgence in the actual flu season.

Hopefully it is gone by then or they have a vaccine. Either way there is NO reason to panic right now. I do however think that if all this hype gets people to wash their hands and not send their kids to school sick then it is for the better.

Basic hygiene has declined in this country and maybe this will wake people up to the fact that it is rude to go to work/school sick as to not "Waste" sick days. Or that soap in a bathroom is meant to be used. Not just a courtesy sprinkle of water at that. LOL!

It only makes me nervous since there are 3 cases in my county and most of the US cases are just 1 or 2 counties over from me.
