Default whose advice would you follow?

DD has an intolerance to the mil protein in cow's milk. the dr thinks that at a year old I should go with goat's milk to ease her off of her formula and it won't cause a great deal of gas and we can try cow's milk at another time. the pediatric dietician says to go straight to cow's mild b/c it has more folic acid and she can better absorb the nutrients. who would you go with?

Hmmm . . . honestly I think I would go with the dietitian's advice first. This is her specialty; pediatricians have to focus on so many things and may not be up on the latest info in certain areas.

I'd try the cow's milk and if she had a problem, then i would try the goat milk.

I would probably be more inclined to go with the dietician's advice.

How strong is her intolerance? Is it something she can overcome? If not, there's no sense in forcing it, but if it's something that she can overcome, the sooner the better in my opinion.

When was the last time she had exposure? If it has been awhile then I may try to expose her to other small amounts of dairy before going straight to goat's milk only because dairy intolerances are often outgrown early on.
