Default am i wrong

Ok...I will try to keep this short about my MIL. It sounds more like a vent but I am looking for some opinions.
For DD 1st day she orders this dress online from the US. First of all, DD is not a tiny kid (not huge but not wearing 12m clothes at 12 m) and she orders it 1T. Secondly, she forgets that we have to pay the brokerage fee for UPS (48$). Thridly, the dress is this BIG BIG dress with a crinoline and all this lace and tie ups and scratchy material. DD touches it and it makes her cry. I tried briefly to get it on her and she just cried because it has buttons all the way up the back with lace and tie ups and all that jazz so I stop b/c she is clearly upset. She spends over 100$ on this thing with the porcelin doll in the matching dress. It's not my style and don't think that a 1 year old she be forced to wear it for a pictures sake if she hates it.

I email her to tell her that we got it, thanked her

but told her it was a bit tight and that DD did not want to put it on. She emails me nothing in reply.

So, she comes over this weekend and asks about the dress (DD is now 14 m old). I remind her of the email and she insists on seeing it. Then DH pipes up and says that we tried again this morning (a lie) to put it on her and it just doesn't work. She is pissed and doesn't even say good bye to me when she left. I don't give a rip but still. What was I supposed to do....put my child in it kicking and screaming b/c granny wanted to see her in this hideous dress. Would you have been the nice daughter in law and taken a pic despite your poor child's disapproval?

I can understand gramma's wanting to dress up their little granddaughters... and I can totally see my MIL picking out something hideous-- but I would appease her and take some pics and be done with it.... it's the thought that counts

I'd take pictures- of her screaming as you try and put the dress on, of her crying AS she wears it, and her smiling when you take it off (yep, I'm mean like that

Yeah I agree with Kelli. I don't like my MIL at all but the few things she has given the kids I do take their pictures and send them to her and then toss it in a Good Will bag.

I am with the others - we have certainly gotten our fair share of crazy clothes for Ashley - I try to get them on and get photos. They are not trying to upset you or you child - just the opposite - some people just don't realize what does and doesn't work and they are trying to relive their children's childhood/never had a girl/whatever.

I hope that she can see it from your side as well, though!
