I like to make "chicken slop" It is the recipe on the back of the Stove Top Box. Chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, mixed veggies and stuffing all in one dish. LOVE it! I call it chicken slop because I like to shred the chiicken and add it to the soup mixture.

Pasta is good here, too. We buy Kroger brand Homestyle mushroom sauce ($1.29--even cheaper when on sale--we only use 1/2 -3/4 of the jar and save the rest in the fridge), 6 pounds of angel hair pasta at Sam's for $5.41 ($.90 pound), and a pack of frozen Kroger garlic bread for $1.50. That's a grand total of $3.69 for the whole family--and there's usually enough pasta leftover to have buttery noodles for lunch the next day.

Mexican is way cheap. One half of a chicken breast cooked and shredded/cubed with cheese between two tortillas under the broiler or toaster oven will make enough quesadillas for the girls. DH and I make two chicken breasts on the George or grill outside and make fajitas. Add a box of Rice-A-Roni ($1) and you have a meal...one of our girls' faves, too! We have lettuce/tomatoes/sour cream in the fridge anyway. With the tortillas ($1.39) and chicken (probably $3 or so), it's probably about $5-6 for the whole meal and we always have leftover chicken for DH to take a chicken wrap to work for lunch the next day.

We also like sloppy joes. One pound of ground sirloin ($3.69--if you buy ground beef it's a lot cheaper but I like sirloin best), one can of Manwich ($1 or cheaper if on sale), pack of buns ($1), and frozen veggies in steamer ($1.39 or cheaper if on sale) and you have another of my kids' favorites for $7.08 and we ALWAYS have leftover sloppy joes for another meal.

We like stroganoff like mentioned above: 1 pound ground sirloin, 2/3 bag of egg noodles, can of cream of mushroom soup, parmesan cheese, milk, parsley. Serve over mashed potatoes. This makes enough for two or three meals. It's a GREAT way to stretch that dollar.

Oh I just thought of a meal we had a lot as a child. And yes, we were a little on the poor side:

Treet slices (that is CHEAP Spam)
mac n cheese
mixed veggies out of a can

Man I hated Treet!
