I love the icicle lights as long as you actually pull them down to a semi straight line. The ones that are all crinkled up look pretty silly

I'd love to get some of the newer blue icicle lights. They have blue, frosted blue and then white tips. On the right house they look so beautiful! Of course I don't have that house, so we won't be doing it. DH wants to put lights up on the roof, but who has a ladder that would go to the top of a 2 story house? I decorate the railing outside with garland and white lights. We also have a deer that goes outside.

We actually have several ladders to get way up high but we do not put lights up all over we just put them on the upstairs banisters wrapped around garland which is also what is on our banisters on the downstairs front porch. Looks nice without being too much. I put a wreath on the door and then the lights in the bushes and that's it no yard stuff.

Twinkling lights don't bother me as much as the flashing off / on especially if they are put up where one side flashes on and the other is off.

I am a classic kind of gal - white lights, no blinking - inside and out.

oh, I just thought of another thing that bothers me and this might be a little OCD, but it REALLY bothers me to have people put lights outside their house that are ONLY on the bottom level of their 2 story house

Just drives me crazy!!

Buy or borrow an extention ladder and either muster up the courage to get up on top yourself or hire someone if you're going to bother putting lights on the house. But don't just do the bottom.

There are a few houses in my neighborhood that do that and it drives me nuts!!

Laura - most houses have a spot where the 2nd story roof is fairly easy to reach with a standard extention ladder. Once you're on top of the roof, you just put the lights on from ontop of the roof, you don't need to keep moving the ladder....
